Math Elementary arithmetic Subtraction

Subtraction

The important rule of subtractions is:

$\text{minuend} - \text{subtrahend}$ $=\text{difference}$

At subtraction, the operands are designated as minuend and subtrahend. The difference is the result.

!

Remember

You can add the additive inverse (opposite number) instead of subtracting a rational number.

Examples

  • $(+4)-(+3)=(+4)+(-3)=+1$

  • $(+9)-(-3)=(+9)+(+3)=+12$
